I have been building fly rods for almost 15 years, but primarily built rods as a hobby for myself, family and friends...​

Until about 2010, when I decided, after encouragement from friends, to open a business after really ramping up on my rod building after moving to WV in 2006.  Almost Heaven Custom Fly Rods was born.  For the first few years, I was busy building rods for friends, by word of mouth and for return customers, focusing on my primary job as an engineering professor at West Virginia University.  While my "day job" keeps me insanely busy, my passion for the craft of rod building must be satisfied!
